Written Certificate, Transcript, or Forgery?

These certificates may have been reduced in size to fit on the page and are not in scale with each other.

The following "certificates" display a problem researchers may come across when searching for early certificates or inheriting "certificates" from ancestors or deceased researchers, etc.

Transcript Church Marriage Newhouse & Brown?

size: 350mm x 210mm

The above image shows what is most likely a transcript of a written certificate produced by the Curate rather than an attempt to forge a certified copy. The reason for this assumption being the square box with stamp written in it rather than a stamp having been affixed in place.

Transcript Church Marriage Kirby & Matthews?

size: 350mm x 210mm

The above image shows what may be a written certificate produced by the Minister rather than a transcript or an attempt to forge a certified copy. In a case like this it would be useful to look at the Parish Register for St. Andrew's Church, Islington and check to see who was the minister in December 1872 and check to see if his signature in the register matches the signature on the "certificate"

Transcript Scottish Birth Ross 1945?

size: 350mm x 210mm

The above image shows what is most likely to be a typed transcript of a certificate produced by the Registrar rather than an attempt to forge a certified copy. The reason for this assumption being the Registrar's signature being typed rather than being a written signature.
