Research Archives are pleased to offer a free scanning service
to all churches, archives and libraries |
This service covers many types of documents including,
but not limited to parish registers, church warden's accounts,
glebe terriers, charity records, churchyard records & plans,
quarter sessions, manor court records, tithe maps, directories,
maps, deeds, etc.
We use overhead scanners (such as the Bookeye scanner) not
flatbed scanners to scan all books and documents to ensure no
damage occurs.

Notes:
It is possible to OCR some printed books for an additional
charge.
OCR is not 100% effective with old books that have inconsistent
or small type face, but can approach 99% perfect for a good
clear type face, even if the book is very old.
Possibly the best way of presenting an old book with OCR is
to allow the reader to see the scanned images of original book's
pages, with the recognised pages hidden beneath.
The search looks for a word, or phrase in the hidden text, behind
the scanned image, and then highlights those words on the visible
page. |
| Creation of PDF files (for Adobe Acrobat) |
It is possible to convert the TIFF image files to
PDF format for use with Adobe Acrobat Reader. This includes
Creation of page numbered bookmarks for the whole document
Supply of the PDF file(s) on CD
Please note: this option is only available if specified at
the same time as an order for scanning.
Bookmarks are labelled, "page 1", "page 2",
etc. and may be renamed or deleted by yourself as required using
Adobe Acrobat.
We can re-label bookmarks, if required, for an additional fee.
The bookmarked page numbers may not correspond with the book's
actual page numbers, although you may modify this using Adobe
Acrobat. |
